2008 Stripes distribution Thursday during lunches
The 2008 Stripes yearbook will be distributed during all lunches on Thursday, May 15. Students must have their ID
cards in order to pick up their books, Dianne Smith, adviser, said.
A limited number of extra books will be available
for sale after school Thursday for $85 cash or money order, Smith added. No personal checks will be accepted.
"We expect the extras to sell out quickly," Smith said. "Be in line early with the correct change."
Math teacher Stephanie Williams was named Fort Bend ISD Secondary
Teacher of the Year at Thursday night's employee awards banquet. Williams was selected as the Travis teacher of the year
earlier this year.
Williams has been a teacher for 14 years, the last two at Travis.
For Williams, teaching is an opportunity to instruct, inspire
and empower students. She has been inspired by her grandparents and the many teachers who shaped her
life as she pursued her educational goals. It is her daily desire to teach students how to make learning
a lifetime experience. She especially wants to help her students to find a profession that is as rewarding
as the one she has found in being a teacher.
Arritta Lacy of Quail Valley Elementary was
named elementary teacher of the year.

Life is no brief candle to me. It is a sort of splendid torch which I have got a hold of for the moment, and I want to make
it burn as brightly as possible before handing it onto future generations.
